Forget the mythology. Google's ranking systems reward a handful of things you can actually influence, and press coverage touches almost all of them.
E-E-A-T, in plain English
Google's quality guidelines revolve around Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trust. In practice that means: does the wider web treat you as a real, credible authority on your topic? Your own site can claim it. Only other sites can confirm it.
What feeds the machine
Coverage on authoritative domains. When established publications write about you, Google inherits their trust. A profile in a major outlet is a vote your own blog can never cast for itself.
Links and mentions. Followed links pass direct authority; even unlinked brand mentions help Google connect your name to your topic.
A consistent entity. Google increasingly ranks things, not just pages. Consistent naming, schema markup, and corroborating sources are how you become a thing, and how Knowledge Panels happen.
Content that answers the query. All the authority in the world won't rank a page that doesn't answer what people search. Authority decides the tiebreak between good answers.
The branded-search battleground
The search you must win is your own name. When "you + reviews" or "you + company" returns strong press, you close deals you never see. When page one is thin or ugly, the deal dies silently. Placements in durable, indexable outlets are the most direct way to control that page.
The honest caveat
Nobody outside Google can guarantee rankings, and anyone who promises a Knowledge Panel is selling something. What's buyable is the groundwork: coverage, consistency, and structure. Google does the rest, and it usually does.
